Zappateers festival in Overasselt (afternoon)
and Elektra Sliedrecht (evening)
March 15th , there were two gigs scheduled.
Early afternoon we set the ball rolling at Zappateers festival. Jeff Hollie completed the ensemble on saxophone. From all corners of the world the devotees had come to the woods near Nijmegen. It was great to play for all these familiar faces and talk to them after the show. A festival in a relaxed atmosphere, with good music and in the middle of the woods..

At the end of the afternoon , we were on our way to Sliedrecht, for the second gig of the day.
This time for an audience, that didn't know the band……….then !
Round 22.00 hours the first tune sounded in the room and at 01.30 hours after the last tones , we left the stage ..leaving a frenzied audience.
The visitors of Elektra had become acquainted with Cuccurullo Brillo.

Speakers en Tequila Plaza
The Occasional Cuccurullo Brillo Brullo Band

The collaboration with our musical friends from Liverpool , Carlo Bowry (guitar), Martin Smith (trumpet), Andy Frizell (bass) en Tilo Pirnbaum (drums) during these 2 concers ,was a unique inspiring musical experience and an impressive combination of musicians.
The 3 prodigious guitarplayers Derk Groen, Paul de Jong and Carlo Bowry , each of them with a different approach, sound etc. , no one stood in someone else's way , just creating space for the other. Which lead to inimitable and briljant guitarparts and solo's. And we all wouldn't mind repeating the experience.
And what's more….it was as always great fun with the guys !!

It was an inspiring experience sharing the stage with Ike Willis and doing a couple of shows in October 2006.
And it wet our appetite for more in the future.
And it was also absolutely fantastic that our good friend Martin Smth joined us during the Hi Ho Silver gigs.
We would thank the following people for their support :
- Robert van den Ende from Max Guitars (www.maxguitar.nl)
- Ron Tetteroo for his hospitality without borders
- Frans Somers , our driver and helping hand
- Arend Haverhoek, Henry van der Woude and Olaf Schlote for filming and editing the show in Speakers, Delft.
- Jeff Hollie (o.a Joe's Garage) for his inspiring contribution on saxophone in Speakers.
- The crew from Speakers (especially Gideon Rozendaal), De Piek (Natasja, Ellen, Han) and all the lovely and kind people from De Engelstede (Han, Don, Pe, Arjan en Bert Hamminga).
Thanks for the warm welcome !
Cuccurullo Brillo Brullo with very, very special guest Ike Willis
The very successful performance of Cuccurullo Brillo Brullo with Ike Willis at Zappanale 16 in Germany has lead to a new collaboration.
Ike Willis will be featuring as a very, very special guest in some exclusive shows with the awesome Dutch Zappa tribute band Cuccurullo Brillo Brullo.
It was while in college at Washington University, St. Louis that Ike Willis and Frank Zappa met. As a guitar player since the age of 8, Ike was studying political science. He volunteered to help with the concert committee just so he could get a back stage pass to meet Frank Zappa. The rest as they say , is history.
Ike Willis was Frank Zappa’s lead singer and rhythm guitarist from 1977 until Frank Zappa’s untimely death in 1993. Ike Willis recorded he played on 30 (!!) albums - and toured with Frank Zappa from 1978 until 1988 (with the exception of 1981 and 1982 for personal reasons) and was one of the few sidemen to survive the many , many incarnations of Frank Zappa’s exceptional bands. A truly amazing voice, coupled with a style of guitar playing that is reminiscent of that unimitatable Zappa melodic style. He is most recognized for his involvement in Zappa records such as Joe’s Garage, Tinseltown Rebellion, You are what you is and as the title character and narrator in Zappa’s bizarre off-Broadway-styled-conceptual musical Thing Fish.
As the longest playing member of Frank Zappa fame , Ike is still upholding his promise to Frank. That promise is to continue on playing the music of Frank Zappa and Ike has continued the Zappa sound legacy through his own music, as well as performances with ensembles performing Frank Zappa’s music on three continents.
The last time that Ike played in Holland was during Frank Zappa’s last tour in 1988 and now after 18 years (!!) Ike is back in Holland and ready to do some exclusive concerts with the Dutch Zappaian Company Cuccurullo Brillo Brullo.
Martin Smith from Liverpool (o.a. The Muffin Men & The Wizards of Twiddly) will also join in as a special guest on trumpet and flugelhorn.
Line-up :

Ike Willis (vocals & guitar), Reinier Parengkuan (vocals), Derk Groen (vocals & guitar), Paul de Jong (vocals & guitar),
Ron van der Kraan (vocals) , Boris van der Lek (saxophone), Arie Verhaar (drums), Peter Kennedy (bass)
and Martin Smith (trumpet & flugelhorn)
August 19th the band will play at the Delft Jazz Festival outside at Café De joffer in Delft.

Saturday the 8th of July Cuccurullo Brillo Brullo plays at FLORA Theater in Delft
together with DOOT feat. André Cholmondelly (their first Dutch experience)

Review VPRO 3 voor 12 Cuccurullo Brillo Brullo at Kaderock June 3th
While the younger audience are dancing inside, outside the mainly older audience gathers.
Namely on stage the 7-piece Zappa-tribute band Cuccurullo Brillo Brullo just started their show. The listeners are treated to great swinging tunes that Zappa composed in various styles : rock, jazz, bigband, electronic and classical music. The gentlemen of Cuccurullo Brillo Brullo identify themselves completely. Even if you would not be able to hear the music, you can read from the musicians faces how beautiful the solo's are.
June 2006, a review by Frans

Last Saturday I went to Kaderock to see and hear Cuccurullo Brillo Brullo. Yes, I did see them two months ago, but this time it was different. They had added a guitar player and a singer and they sounded more like Frank Zappa than the first time. I never realised the late Mr. Zappa had made so many evergreens and many people of my own age in the audience were pleasantly reminded of their hero from the past and danced away on his music.
Kaderock (kade is Dutch for quay) is a yearly open air festival organised by Musicon, which is a rehearsal centre for (amateur) rock musicians. Well known as well as less known musicians perform on the Musicon campus near the quay of the street Soestdijksekade.

Last Saturday (April 1) I went to De Pater to see and hear Cuccurullo Brillo Brullo play. This band plays songs by Frank Zappa without trying to pretend to be “him”. This results in really swinging rhythm and blues.
Tenorsaxophone player Boris van der Lek as always played like the young god Apollo, though on this picture he seems to have lost the basic skills for a moment.

The presentation of ZapZurditieZ in the Flora Theater on June 19th was absolutely wonderful.
Despite the tropical temperature outside (35 degrees !!!) and the time of the concert (15.30 hours)
it was a full house. A great and warmhearted audience, that was very inspiring for us on stage.
Thank you for that. We really enjoyed ourselves immensely. And it was also great that a
delegation of the Zappanale ,Thomas, Olaf & Henry faced the long drive from Germany and
Peter van Laarhoven from Belgium…to experience this modest rockin teenage combo from Delft.
We were honoured that Co de Kloet (anchor man & programmaker by the NPS
and personal friend of Frank Zappa) found some time in his busy schedule to
officially present the first copy of ZapZurditieZ.
