Review ZapZurditieZ, monthly Dutch magazine Gitarist (with special about Frank Zappa) (The Netherlands
There is no shortage of Zappa-copycats, but CBB from Delft are a band whose approach deserves to be considered inspiring. Although the typical Z ingredients remain clearly recognizable, these musicians base their covers on a firm Rhythm and Blues foundation.
Working from this angle CBB sounds more down to earth than the perfectionist master himself, making Z''s music, which is generally considered difficult, accessible to a wider audience.
Zapzurditiez contains eight of the more accessible songs from all periods in Z's musical history.Accessible, but no less complicated.
These accomplished musicians pull this off without any compromise whatsoever , nor are they daunted by Z's compositional impossibilities.

Co de Kloet, editor, program-maker, producer, presenter with NPS and close personal friend of Zappa's, has presented the first copy of ZapZurditieZ during a very successful ceremony in the Flora Theater in Delft (Holland).
I think it is important that Z's music is kept alive by good Z-tribute-bands such as CCB, he said. America has got Project Object (with Ike Willis and Napoleon Murphy Brock), Great-Britain has got The Muffin Men (with Jimmy Carl Black) and now Holland has come up with a match for these bands : the amazing CCB! This is a very special combination and , like the band, the cd sounds fresh and surprising.
June 2005 ; a review by Peter van Laarhoven on ZapZurditieZ
www.united-mutations.com (Belgium)
Cuccurullo Brillo Brullo is a Dutch band that plays the music of Frank Zappa. "ZapzurditieZ" is their first album. It's something that I had been waiting for, for years. Whenever I saw the band live, they always impressed me by the fine vocal work and the superb rhythm 'n' blues approach by guitar player Derk Groen.
This here album shows that the band has gone further then that. Paul de Jong has made some major steps in his fusion-like playing, and the addition of Boris Vanderlek's saxophone gives the band an extra pulse.
There are a lot of bands that play Zappa's music, but only a handful of them will show you how it should be done.
Essential stuff. !!!

Cuccurullo Brillo Brullo presented their first album at the 'Flora Theater' in Delft, NL.
The disc that is pictured on the right was sent out as a promotional dittie for both the concert & the new album. It features two tracks: 'Hot Plate Heaven' and 'Stinkfoot'.
I have to admit that I hadn't been sure about driving all the way up to Delft, but after a quick listen I didn't have a choice..
The concert was great. I had seen the band on a couple of occasions already (mostly opening for the Muffin Men), but they never sounded this good. Very impressive !!

Napi on the film Rock School - the climax of which was filmed at Zappanale #14:
I'm in this movie, and they also play two of my songs from Balls [Steady Freddy and Patience].
Look for the picture of the kid with the hair. Icon Film will distribute it in the UK this summer. A soundtrack CD is now available, featuring Paul Green's kids playing with the likes of Alice Cooper (School's Out), Jon Anderson (Heart Of The Sunrise) and Ian Gillan (Highway Star) - but sadly none of the Zappa (or Napi) songs from the film
Cuccurullo Brillo Brullo (who are also performing this year) have a new album out soon.

The Zappas were on BBC1 Breakfast TV on Friday (3rd June) promoting their Zappa Plays Zappa tour. See a QuickTime video of it here (not a lot was revealed: DZ said they will focus on stuff he and AZ like from between 74 and 80 (so how come Flo & Eddie will be there - if you believe the Royal Albert Hall website?). AZ said they're currently torturing us fans by not announcing names of special guests yet (thanks!) - we'll get 'em a bit at a time, but we won't be disappointed. GZ smiled sweetly)

Pardon Music Promotions, May 2005 (Delft, The Netherlands)
Pardon Music Promotions is proud to announce the completion of the long-awaited 1st CD of the Dutch continuous conceptual project, Cuccurullo Brillo Brullo. This CD, called ZapzurditieZ, will be presented on June 19th in the Flora Theater, Verwersdijk 1, in Delft, The Netherlands. Doors open at: 15.00 hours; Concert: 15.30 hours
You are invited to come and watch and listen to a band that manages to keep alive the music of lyricist, composer, guitarist, critic, satirist, conductor and the Groucho Marx of Rock & Roll, Frank Zappa, retaining at the same time their own characteristics, interpretation and approach as well as their subtle arrangements with just a touch of rhythm & blues.
Cuccurullo Brillo Brullo makes Frank Zappa's music accessible to a wider audience and the musical aptitude, the sparkling enthusiasm, the sheer enjoyment and the unprecedented chemistry on stage make a concert of this Zappian ensemble a feast for those who love a
healthy dose of inspiring music.
Fresh, surprising, impressive, sublime, a completely new sound, overwhelming, spacious These are just some of the reactions the CD has met with so far. Producer Reinier Parengkuan: We had a great time recording these tunes. The vibes within the band were inspiring, the studio was a floating carpet and Frits van Mourik, the engineer & mixer, proved a wonderful person to work with and Paul de Jong did a superb job mixing & mastering.
